Avril Ayling

Fabric Textile painter

Avril has developed her own style of textile painting over many years. Using a simple stencil and foam block for loading textile paint she has depicted nature based images onto cloth for over 35yrs. Her designs have been printed onto sarongs, clothes, pillowslips and as framed pictures for local and international customers.

She was originally from Melbourne but went to New Zealand to complete a Ph.D on the ecology of marine sponges and loved the underwater world so much that she started painting it in oils and on fabric. After finishing university she left for Far North Queensland where she lived for 30yrs on the banks of the Daintree River producing fabric paintings which she sold locally and rearing twin daughters with her marine biologist husband Tony. She has taught her fabric painting method to others in her own workshops and with Flying Arts. Avril is a commercial diver and has dived all round Australia for many years and finds that every dive provides a wealth of great beauty to paint. She has also trained as a Bowen therapist and Homeopath. The family left the Daintree rainforest for the Whitsundays several years back to experience a drier clime.

Avril has exhibited her work in several art exhibitions up at Mossman and Port Douglas and most recently in the Hydeaway Bay Art Expos and Art Whitsunday Exhibitions.
